The heating power of a PTC thermistor for liquid heating varies depending on the operating conditions. To maximize the PTC’s heat dissipation power, the heated liquid should have good circulation or convection. The power density (heating power/water contact area) of a submersible heater is approximately 6W/cm² (at a water temperature of 25°C). The power density (heating power/water contact area) of a fluid heater is approximately 4-10W/cm² (at a water temperature of 25°C). Higher water temperatures reduce heating power.
The higher the dry-burning temperature of a PTC liquid thermostat heater, the greater the heating power it generates. To achieve a relatively low-cost solution, PTC liquid thermostat heaters are generally designed for a dry-burning temperature of 220-280°C. If the dry-burn temperature is required to be lowered, the volume or number of PTC liquid thermostat heaters must be increased accordingly to achieve equivalent power.
