The water temperature sensor is the core component of the car cooling system. Its core component is the NTC thermistor, which is installed on the engine cylinder head or water channel. This component looks simple, but it is actually very critical to engine control. It will directly affect the ECU’s adjustment of the injection amount and ignition timing.

The EGT sensor is responsible for reading the temperatures of the aftertreatment system components such as inlet DOC, inlet DPF, outlet DPF, inlet SCR, outlet SCR, etc., and sending this information back to the ECM to maintain proper temperatures that control the aftertreatment system to reduce the harmful emissions.

To customize the function of an automotive intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, you can modify the sensor’s signal output to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). This is typically achieved by adding resistance in series or parallel with the sensor, effectively altering the voltage signal the ECU receives. This can be done using a potentiometer (variable resistor) or a fixed resistor. Changing the IAT signal can influence the ECU’s decisions regarding fuel delivery and ignition timing, potentially affecting engine performance.
